graffiti device brainstorming

graffiti can stimulate thoughts and emotions just as much as a piece of art, whether it is in admiration for the tag, or disgust for the vandals’ disregard for public space. i’ve been brainstorming for ideas about this device with patrick, about how such a response can be quantified or recorded. how could users of a space create their own forms of graffiti, express their thoughts and emotions through a device? it could be as simple as a chalk or dry-erase board, a piece of paper dropped into a box.

so i’m beginning to explore other ideas. maybe it could be a stimulated response, a reaction towards a quote or an image, along with the device. quote/image + device = response. i don’t know how or if this could work, but what about text messages as graffiti? people see an image, are compelled to say something about it, and text message that reaction which appears on a wall, somehow. maybe through a projection of some sort?

i’ve been looking online and found some interesting projects that could help kickstart more ideas. here’re a couple I thought were interesting:

interactive architecture, by graffiti research lab: projected graffiti on city buildings…

train bombers, by graffiti research lab: brad mentioned this project to us before. LED throwies…LEDs running on lithium batteries taped to magnets. looks like fun. don’t’ forget to check out the electro-graf.

temporary zen: you paint with water on the buddha Board. your painting disappears as the water evaporate.

bluetooth bombing: interactive graffiti with your cellphone.
